Perryville Stave Company began as Missouri Timber Company in 1946. At the time, the American oak barrel business was entirely for whiskey barrels. When Missouri Timber Company folded in the early ‘60’s they sold their mills to the managers, one of which was Bill Bailey. Bill renamed the Perryville, Missouri mill as Perryville Stave Company in 1963 and he is still active in the company today.
Whiskey barrel stave production continued for many years until 1980 when we started making wine barrel staves. Wine barrel stave production has grown greatly since then with whiskey staves having a secondary role. Production of oak alternative products began about 10 years ago with untoasted inserts and has evolved into our other products which you can find on our Oak Alternatives page.
